Privacy Policy

Addiction Valley publishes plain-language information about addiction, treatment and recovery through this website and our companion mobile app (available at app.addictionvalley.com). We know people often use our services at a difficult moment, so we keep the information we collect to a minimum and we never sell it. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

Who we are

Addiction Valley operates this website and the Addiction Valley app. If you have a question about this policy or about the information we hold, email recovery@addictionvalley.com.

Information we collect

On the website

• Information you give us. Your email address when you subscribe to our newsletter, and anything you choose to include when you contact us.
• Usage information. Basic technical details such as pages viewed, approximate location from your IP address, browser type and referring site.
• Cookies and similar tools. Small files that keep the site working and help us understand which articles people find useful.

Addiction Valley mobile app

• Using the app without an account: your records are stored only on your device and are not sent to us.
• Optional account: if you create an account, we collect your email address, a user ID, and, if you sign in with Google, your Google profile name and profile picture link (the picture is not displayed). We use these for account management.
• Recovery data saved to your account: sobriety and smoke-free dates, mood and craving check-ins, your recovery plan (health information), and notes, journal entries and any trusted person's name and phone number you type in. We use this only to provide the app's features.
• We do not collect location, financial info, messages, photos, audio, files, calendar, contacts, browsing history, device identifiers, or app usage/crash analytics. The app contains no advertising or analytics SDKs.
• We do not sell or share your data. Account data is stored with our hosting provider, Supabase, acting as a service provider. All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
• Deleting your data: in the app at Settings > Delete my account, or see addictionvalley.com/delete-account. "Delete all records…" in Settings clears records but keeps the account. Supabase keeps daily backups for 7 days, so deleted data may remain in backups for up to 7 days.

How we use it

• To publish, improve and maintain the guides and resources on this site.
• To operate the app, sync your saved content across devices and keep your account secure.
• To send our newsletter, only when you have asked for it.
• To send app notifications you have enabled, and to reply to messages you send us.
• To keep our services secure, prevent misuse and understand aggregate usage.

Sharing

We do not sell or rent your information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the website and app, such as hosting, email delivery, analytics and payment processing, and only to the extent they need it. Where the app is distributed through an app store, your use of that store is also covered by the store's own privacy policy. We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or where it is necessary to protect someone from serious harm.

Keeping your information

Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. App accounts and saved content are kept while your account is active; if you delete your account or request deletion, we remove your personal data within a reasonable period, subject to legal or security requirements. Messages you send us are kept for as long as needed to answer them and to keep a record of the conversation. Analytics data is kept in aggregate form.

Your choices

• Unsubscribe from any newsletter using the link at the bottom of the email.
• Delete your app account and saved content from within the app, or ask us to do it for you.
• Turn off app notifications or other permissions in your device settings at any time.
• Ask for a copy of the information we hold about you.
• Ask us to correct or delete that information.
• Block or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time.

To make a request, email recovery@addictionvalley.com. We aim to reply within 30 days.

Children

Our website and app are written for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

Other websites and services

Our articles and app link to government, university and health organisation sources, and the app may rely on app stores and payment providers. Those services have their own privacy policies, and this one does not apply to them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be highlighted on the site or in the app.
